While
Washington State insurance can be costly, there are ways that you can save money and contribute towards preserving the environment. A number of insurers are beginning to promote environmental sustainability, “green” practices, and climate change initiatives, to help reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollutants.

As a result, these insurers are offering green commercial and homeowner policies, which allow for rebuilding after a disaster using environmentally sustainable methods and materials, in return for reduced premiums and/or other discounts.
Some insurers also offer reduced premiums for homeowners who currently reside in “eco-friendly” homes, especially those that have
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Many policyholders who generate their own power may also benefit from compensation if they find they have to buy electricity from another source after a disaster.
“Pay-As-You-Drive” (PAYD) is also a new green insurance product that enables you to save money on premiums if you choose to drive fewer miles. Mileage is checked either by an odometer inspection or through a mileage transmitter device.
